As-salamu alaykum. I'm a 15 year old girl and I have a 16 year old cousin that got drunk a couple of times. I've told her before that I disapprove and that it's haraam and she just giggled. I'm concerned about how to make her stop? I know its due to peer pressure from her friends because all of her friends did it and she just joined in. The first time she told me about how awful it was and how she would never do it again, I told her that her prayers won't be accepted for 40 days because she got drunk but that doesn't mean she shouldn't repent and pray everyday. I thought that was the end of the story, but I was wrong. She went on a trip abroad with her school and got drunk there again, rumors flew around about her and her reputation became even worse off. I asked her why does she do this to herself and she told me, 'everyone does it! Why shouldn't I?' but then promised not to do it again. A few days later she sent me some photo's with a friend looking drunk, and I just don't know what to do anymore?! I don't want to tell her parents, as her dad is kind of a religion extremist and her mother would never trust her again. What should I do?

Assalam-0-Alikum sister,

First of all, I really appreciate your effort and you are doing your religious duty really good.

Holy Qur'an Says,

Then is one to whom the evil of his deed has been made attractive so he considers it good [like one rightly guided]? For indeed, Allah sends astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. So do not let yourself perish over them in regret. Indeed, Allah is Knowing of what they do. [Holy Qur'an 35:8]

You just keep encouraging her to stop drinking. And drinking is not just prohibited in religion but drinking harms her life as well. In a drunk state anyone could take off her advantage or maybe someone had already taken her advantage. If she is destroying her life, you are not responsible for her so do not let yourself perish over her in regret. Its the duty of her parents and they will be responsible if they are lacking in their duty.

salam. first ask her a question.if all of your friends want to fall in vally or fire would you like to fall with them?! if most people do the sins like this and it is normal it doesn't mean the sin is true. it means unfortunately our world is in a terrible fall. why we came to this world?! just for eating, going wc,enjoing and etc. No NEVER. our life is not vain. we came to know the(allah)and if we know him we will find the bliss way.also pray for her after salat
