Offcourse you can. It will help you gain a lot of good deeds which could help your scale on the day of judgment higher.however, you cannot just fast only Thursday every week. You should rather fast Monday and thursday, everyotherday, or 3 times a monthe. This was the fast a person can do. But, just fasting on Thursday iis a innovation, never has the prophet legislated that we can fast on Thursday only for a miss fast and some other reason. I will explain to you how it will benefit you.Mashalh keep this habit.

The virtues of fasting are great indeed, and one of the things reported in the saheeh ahaadeeth is that Allaah has chosen fasting for Himself, and He will reward it and multiply the reward without measure, as He says [in the hadeeth qudsi]: “Except for fasting which is only for My sake, and I will reward him for it.” (al-Bukhaari, al-Fath, no. 1904; Saheeh al-Targheeb, 1/407). Fasting has no equal (al-Nisaa'i, 4/165; Saheeh al-Targheeb, 1/413), and the du’aa’ of the fasting person will not be refused (reported by al-Bayhaqi, 3/345; al-Silsilat al-Saheeh, 1797). The fasting person has two moments of joy: one when he breaks his fast and one when he meets his Lord and rejoices over his fasting (reported by Muslim, 2/807). Fasting will intercede for a person on the Day of Judgement, and will say, “O Lord, I prevented him from his food and physical desires during the day, so let me intercede for him.” (Reported by Ahmad, 2/174. Al-Haythami classed its isnaad as hasan in al-Majma’, 3/181. See also Saheeh al-Targheeb, 1/411). The smell that comes from the mouth of a fasting person is better with Allaah than the scent of musk. (Muslim, 2/807). Fasting is a protection and a strong fortress that keeps a person safe from the Fire. (Reported by Ahmad, 2/402; Saheeh al-Targheeb, 1/411; Saheeh al-Jaami’, 3880). Whoever fasts one day for the sake of Allaah, Allaah will remove his face seventy years’ distance from the Fire. (Reported by Muslim, 2/808). Whoever fasts one day seeking the pleasure of Allaah, if that is the last day of his life, he will enter Paradise. (Reported by Ahmad, 5/391; Saheeh al-Targheeb, 1/412). In Paradise there is a gate called al-Rayyaan, through those who fast will enter, and no one will enter it except them; when they have entered it will be locked, and no-one else will enter through it.” (al-Bukhaari, Fath, no. 1797).

Fasting trains the will to avoid desires and keep away from sin; it helps a person to overcome his own nature and to wean himself away from his habits. It also trains a person to get used to being organized and punctual, which will solve the problem that many people have of being disorganized, if only they realized.so what ever habits you have that you want to change inshallah through the will of Allah you can change it while you are fasting.

Your dua will not be rejected while you are fasting so ask for forgiveness,

I dint notice that you again posted comments for me. My eyes drop tears while reading. It was a big dilemma in my life losing my trust and faith with Allah, hurting my parents blaming for my disappointments. I keep reading and reading looking myself to feel God back, but so hard to feel him my heart is full of guilt and anger. Now, Alhamdulillah, thru this site everyday reading I feel myself enlighten, and I hope very soon I could live my life with God faith and trust.

Sister it is at this time that you have to be strong. When you are at your weakest, if you are patient, you will tast the sweetness of faith.you will relize that what happened, occured because it was to elavate your status in the hearafter.

The Prophet (saw) said: "You will never give up something for the sake of Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, except that Allah will replace it with something that is better for you than it." (Ahmad)

So think good of Allah. One difference from the sahaba and us is when a calamity strick, they say verily to Allah we belong at hime we return.

Do not lose your trust in Allah. He is our hope. Withought his mercy were will we be. our family, jobs, family, and everything that we own is because of Allah's mercy. He promised the believer eternal paradise, so have trust in him. It is the plot of shaytan. Make your heart strong. Become a better Muslim and inshallah you can reach a point that nothing will affect you.

All humans are sinners. And the best sinners are those who repent much.” (Recorded in Abu Dawood)

(SAW) said: “It is a heavy thing for my heart if I don not seek Allah’s forgiveness a hundered times a day.” (Muslim)
