Assalamu 'alaykum . It is said that Islam was founded by Prophet Hazrat Mu'hammad SAWLLALLAHU 'ALAYHI WA SALLAM . How then does this mean the Prophets 'ALAYHI SAWLATU WASSALAM before him were Muslim or followed Islam ? Jazakallahu khair .

Wa 'alaykumus salam . Allah says in quite a few places that all Prophets (Alayhi Salam) were Muslims. To further the point on this, as a Muslim we follow what is known as the Hanif religion, which means that we worship Allah alone without partners. This was the religion of Ibrahim(Alayhi Salam) and is the religion that all Prophets(Alayhi Salam) follow. An example of this is Surah 22 Ayah 78 where Allah says which translates to mean,"And strive hard in Allah's Cause as you ought to strive. He has chosen you, and has not laid you in religion any hardship: It is the religion of your father Ibrahim. It is He Who has named you as Muslims both before and after and in this(the Quran), that the Messenger Muhammad may be a witness over you and you be a witness over mankind! So perform As-Salat, give Zakat and hold fast to Allah. He is your Maula, what an Excellent Maula, and what an Excellent Helper." So form this we see that Allah named us as Muslims both before and after the Quran. I hope that this answers your question.
