Wa 'alaikumus salam wa ra'hmatullahi wa barakatuhu wa maghfiratuhu. Yes, there is a ruling. I didn't find anything about this in Qur'an but there is a hadîth related through Abdullah bin al-Zubayr(may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to point by his finger in supplication but did not move it. [Related in Sunan Abî Dâwûd(988,990),Sunan al-Nasâ’î(1270) with this wording, and in Sahîh Muslim(579) without the phrase “but did not move it”, all with the chain of transmission fromAmir bin Abdullah(may Allah be pleased with him) fromAbdullah bin Zubayr(may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace be upon him) ] The hadith regarding pointing with the index finger during tashahhud was related by `Asim bin Kulayb bin Shihâb(may Allah be pleased with him). It was related by al-Bukhârî inal-Adab, al-Tirmidhî, Abu Dâwûd, Ibn Khuzaymah. There is an addition to this hadith by Zâ’dah bin Qudâmah (may Allah be pleased with him) that says: “I saw the Prophet (peace be upon him) moving his index finger upon supplication”. This addition is weak. Moreover, the hadîth itself is not authentically related.
