Dear Brothers and sisters,

A long time ago, I was sitting with a group of non-muslims and I said someone was "like God". Astagfer Allah. I did not know much about Islam back then and did not know that Shirk is unforgivable by Allah (swt). The words just came out of my mouh and I couldn't believe what I had just said. I have been for a very long time in extreme fear and depression that Allah (swt) won't forgive me. I have been trying to conceal my mistake for very long now but I can't hold it in any longer. I don't believe what I said and I am aware that if you do something haram without knowing its haram it doesnt count. but I probably did know it was haram just not unforgivable. I never believed what I said and now I am terrified that I have committed shirk and that Allah (swt) my never forgive me.

In Quran 4:48 Allah (swt) states:

Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills. And he who associates others with Allah has certainly fabricated a tremendous sin.

I wish I hadnt said it but do you think I have committed shirk and will I be punished based on my circumstances? Please answer me truthully. Jazak Allah khayr brothers and sisters.

Sahih International Translation:-

Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah . Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful." Surah Az-Zumar(39:53)

This answers all :) Brother you need to understand, Allah(SWT) is Ar-Rahman, the most merciful. If He(SWT) wanted to punish us, we wouldn't have any hopes left. He(SWT) gives us chances after chance, and the guilt you are now feeling is also a mercy of Allah(SWT). There are many people who's hearts are hardened that they don't even feel the guilt. Feeling guilty is good once you understand your mistakes. Never loose hope in the Mercy of Allah(SWT). Repent and don't commit it again. Always repent to Allah(SWT), for He(SWT) is the One who accepts repentance. Shirk is unforgivable if you die with it without repentance. Think like this, many non muslim people converts to islam, they did commit shirk before right? But they entered islam and repented. So repent, and nag Allah(SWT) for forgiveness :)

I think perhaps Allah does not forgive those who associate others with Him on a regular, or permanent basis rather than someone, like yourself, who makes just a single mistake, and immediately repents. Place your trust in the mercy of One whose mercy is without end and never deserved. Maybe you should make some form of reparation; like fasting for a while, or feeding someone who is hungry. And do this, not for reward, and perhaps not even for forgiveness, but for His glory, and in thanks for all the blessings you receive.

AssalaamuAlaikum.

Your sin no matter how great, Allah's mercy is greater. I tend to rather believe that "Allah does not forgive association..." [as mentioned in Quran], is to indicate the matters after this life, that is I mean in the hereafter. Before death, Allah forgives everything. I mean everything. I have this faith. Your repentance shall go not in vain. Allah does not let go repentance in vain. He is more merciful than He is strict.

Asalaam Aalikum ALLLAH (SWT) has said my mercy prevails over my anger... Don't lose hope in the mercy of ALLAH ... He is Ghafoor-Ar-Rahim... Beg to him for your forgiveness. .. indeed He is the most forgiving and He loves to forgive...Make inside yourself a strong beleif that you will not repeat this sin again...
