I was going around YouTube the other day and I went across a christian women preaching that women should cover her hair at all times even though some only do in church and then she put on her hair covering to show us, it looked very similar to the Hijab, and I know some of you interpret the Bible differently and I was wondering if you guys believe in covering your hair? she said something about it being in corithians 11 and she also said that she believes Sarah and Rebeka wore it and that there are many christian paintings illustrating women in head coverings. |

here it is! Umm Salamah (a woman of the Sahaba, may Allah be pleased with her) asked, "What should women do with their garments?" The Prophet sallalahu alahi wa salaam said: "They should lower their garments a hand span," (half their shins down). Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) further said, "Women's feet would still be uncovered." Allah's Messenger sallalhu alahi wa salaam replied: "Let them lower them a forearm's length, but not longer." (At-Tirmidhi) |

Some denominations teach that a woman's head should be covered, that they should wear there hair long, and that they should not wear jewelry. This is all mentioned by Paul in the new testament as things that he would like to see done. This is adiaphora, that means those Christian teachings which are neutral, things that are neither commanded by God nor forbidden by Him in Scripture. The real question here is What is a woman doing preaching**, that is not adiaphora, Paul refers to the order of creation in his epistle to Timothy when he discusses the relationship between men and women in the church context. |

I am muslim but I was raised christian and in churches for 27 years. The bible, old test did teach modesty and covering their charms and protecting their image and virtru. I don't and have never thought God changed his mind on dress codes, prayers to God only or what we r and r not allowed to eat. It was some of the reasons it was easy to convert to islam. |

Not all Christian women cover their hair in or out of church. This idea comes from the New Testament 1 Corinthians 11:6 which says
Some Christians take this to mean that a woman should always cover her head. But when it is looked at in it's whole context, 1 Corinthians 11:3-16 says:
Many Christians take this to mean a woman's long hair provides her covering. Many believe the man is her covering as they believe Jesus is man's covering. The purpose of the scripture is to show that men and women have different roles and a woman must make her role apparent when she prays or prophecies. Under Jewish Law a married woman is supposed to cover her head. Christianity teaches that Christians are not under the Law and are free to do whatever they believe to be right by God. In the U.S., most Christian woman do not cover their heads. |
