if you really mean what you are saying in your du'a it will get accepted it dosent matter when you do it or where you are unless its a specific du'a for that time and place like a du'a for the dead at the gravyard it wouldnt make sense to give them salam when your not there just think of the situation and which one would be most appropriate you can find one for any thing you are asking for but the best way to get a du'a accepted is if you listen to everything allah tells you so Allah will listen to you for example its more likely that a good muslim man will get his du'a accepted then one that drinks does drugs and takes usuary then asks allah for somthing when he dosent even listen to Allah

For your Du'a to be accepted firstly you must be a Muslim and also believe in His messenger [salallahu aleyhi wasalam] and do not associate Allah with anything nor add anything to the sunah just like Allah tells us and says, [To Him [alone] is the supplication of truth. And those they call upon besides Him do not respond to them with a thing, except as one who stretches his hands toward water [from afar, calling it] to reach his mouth, but it will not reach it [thus]. And the supplication of the disbelievers is not but in error [i.e. futility]. [13 v14] Secondly, your earning must be Halal your money, your closes, and your food because Allah is Pure and accepts pure from the slave.

Thirdly this is how you can get closer to Allah, Allah says, [Those who fulfill the covenant of Allah and do not break the contract] [13 v20] this means when one says there is no god but Allah and that Mohammed is His messenger, your signing a contract with Allah and this contract has conditions that one must fulfill just like Allah says, [And those who join that which Allah has ordered to be joined and fear their Lord and are afraid of the evil of [their] account] [13 v21] here Allah tells us He Has giving us tasks to fulfill which are His rights just like He tells us and says, [And those who are patient, seeking the countenance of their Lord, and establish prayer and spend from what We have provided for them secretly and publicly and prevent evil with good - those will have the good consequence of [this] home ] [13 v22] here Allah tells us firstly we must fulfill the acts of worship which is Salah, Zakah and so forth, and then Allah orders us to forbid the evil and to enjoin good which is the highest of forms of obedient from the slave to His master, therefore whoever fulfills these rights of Allah then Allah praises them and says, [And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth easily, and when the ignorant address them [harshly], they say [words of] peace] [25 v63] know est how Allah called the the slaves of the most merciful, this means Allah is pleased with them and loves them because of their obedient to Him and Allah gives us more description and the quality of the slaves of the most merciful and how they earn His nearness and the act they do when they are alone and He says, [And those who spend [part of] the night to their Lord prostrating and standing [in prayer] [25 v64] and also says, [And those who say, "Our Lord, avert from us the punishment of Hell. Indeed, its punishment is ever adhering] [25 v65] and also says, [And [they are] those who, when they spend, do so not excessively or sparingly but are ever, between that, [justly] moderate] [25 v67] and also says, [And those who do not invoke with Allah another deity or kill the soul which Allah has forbidden [to be killed], except by right, and do not commit unlawful sexual intercourse. And whoever should do that will meet a penalty] [25 v68]

These are some of how to get closer to Allah and to earn His love and for our Du'a to be accepted and I hope this will give you some idea of what Allah wants from us and may Allah bless you for asking this question as it shows your sincerity towards our Lord and every Muslim should be happy when they see or hear a Muslim who is a sincere to our Lord.
