As-salāmu `alaykum wa rahmatu l-lāhi wa barakātuh,
I am 20 years old and I live in The Netherlands, I am currently studying Ship and yacht building, it is a 4 year during course and I have 2 years to go.
This Ramadan was an eye opener for me, I have realised that I’m a slave of Allah and I need to obey Allah and follow the Quran and the Hadith of our beloved Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him).
I really want to do this, but I lack knowledge about Islam. I have never been to a Islamic school. I know a little bit about the basics but, I really want to extend my knowledge, and maybe become a Islamic scholar In Sha Allah.
I’m thinking about moving to the UK because there are much more Islamic schools, Mosques and Muslims there. And in The Netherlands there are lots of things that I find disturbing (ex. Drugs prostitution etc.).
My goals are, I want to memorize and understand the Quran completely and I want to improve my Quran recitation skills (I am really inspired by Shaykh Mahmoud Khalil al-Husary and Sheikh Maher bin Hamad Al-Mueaqly) and of course learn Arabic and improve my Urdu and English.
In the country where I live there aren’t any schools where you can become an Islamic scholar. I did a little digging about Islamic universities and found lots of them. But most of them are in a foreign country and the requirements are quite high and I don’t know If I can live up to them.
For example I looked up information about Islamic universities in foreign countries, and found: Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Eygpt, Islamic University of Madinah in Medinah, Saudi-Arabia, and lots more, but these two are the ones where I’m the most interested in. The problem is that I don’t know if I can live up to the requirements and the work pressure. And I live with my parents, what if my father passes away, because if a go study abroad, he will be the only male living with my family (two sisters and my mother), and we don’t have any family in the Netherlands other than each other.
What should I do?
I hope you do your best, and take your time to answer my question. It's the most important question I've ever asked anyone. I am waiting patiently for your reply. May Allah bless you with beneficial knowledge and good deeds and a strong memory and a perfect understanding.
As-salāmu `alaykum wa rahmatu l-lāhi wa barakātuh Allahfiz
