I have heard this story, and I was said that probably this story was there in sura'a al bakarah, It goes something like this,

Humans were forbidden to fish on saturday, but some of them didn't care, so they continued cathing fishes on saturday, then as a punishment they were turned into apes/monkeys.

I want to know how much of it is true and if it is true in which verse of qur'aan is it written ?

"And ask them about the town that was by the sea- when they transgressed in (the matter of) the Sabbath- when their fish came to them openly on their Sabbath day, and the day they had no Sabbath they did not come to them . Thus did We give them trial because they were defiantly disobedient." (7:163) (and please keep reading till the verse (7:166)..."and when they were insolent about that which they had been forbidden, We said to them, 'Be apes, despised.'"

(another verse); "And you had already known about those who transgressed among you concerning the Sabbath, and We said to them, 'Be apes, despised.'" "and We made it a deterrent punishment for those who were present and those who succeeded (them) and a lesson for those who fear Allah." (2"65-66)

you can also find them mentioned in verses; (4:154) and in (4:47)

so are you saying it is true? to be taken litterally? does no one else find it strange that there are all sorts of people "transgressing the limits" in today's world, 6 billion plus people, polythiests, atheists, terrorists, blasphemers, apostates and when was the last time someone was turned into an ape or a pig? wouldn't the zionist occupation of palestine be a greater sin than picking up some fish on the sabbath. yet no pig men, other than a seinfeld episode. how bizarre how bizarre.

Allah will do whatever He wills by His wisdom as He is the source of all power. after sending the seal of prophets pbuh who is a mercy to the all worlds. He do not punish people in this world like.. the people of Noah or Lot or Moses... he delay the disbelievers for a great Day in which we will be returned back to our Creator.

so why relay the story if it is not meant as a threat? so earthquakes and volcanos and floods and tsunamis aren't the wrath of allah? how about sinkholes.

the prophets before Muhammad the seal of them(pbut) were warning their people that if they do not follow them and believe in their signs then Allah will send upon them torment/punishment to take their life in this world beside the punishment of the last day. and that is what has happened with Noah, Lot, Salih, sho3ayb, Houd and Moses

But since prophet Muhammad there is no such warnings. but just the Final/Last Day.

Anybody who is dying because of any natural reason like volcano or tsunami is no big difference than a person who die on his bed.. all are from Allah.(not as a punishment)

strange, i've seen islamic scholars say that the tsunami in 04, was it, was a punishment for celebrating new years, a pagan holiday. the grand ayatollah of iran said that it was god who blew up the space shuttle columbia. i saw a news report out of pakistan after some flooding and an iman answered a guys question, "is this a punishment from allah or just a test?" the iman said, "if you have done somethink to make allah angery then it is a punishment, if not it is just a test." something like that.

1) it wasnt all humans who were forbidden - it was a community of jews who were fishing on the day of the Sabbath.

2) All of them did not transgress. Rather, they split into 3 groups.

GROUP 1 - went fishing

GROUP 2 - let group 1 go fishing and didn't stop them.

Group 3 - tried to stop group 1 from fishing.

Group 1 was made up of a handful of people, and they were punished. We dont know what Allah did with group 2. Group 3 were saved from the punishment.

3) Allah is ever merciful. He says many times in the quran that if He was to punish people for the crimes they did, no one would be left on earth. Instead, Allah gives us time (to repent) and only on judgement day will judgement be made.

In the case of the Sabbath breakers, if was their mocking of Allah's command that caused the punishment, not the act of fishing itself.

"3) Allah is ever merciful. He says many times in the quran that if He was to punish people for the crimes they did, no one would be left on earth. Instead, Allah gives us time (to repent) and only on judgement day will judgement be made." so did he turn them into apes or not?
