can we watch romance drama? can we watch hindu dramas?
Watching movies including drama, horror, crime, action science fiction, etc is prohibited in Islam, reason being that they contain: nudity obscene language immoral actions (such as murder, deceit, zina, crime of various type, lies etc) ideas which others may duplicate in real life...etc By watching, one is committing zina of the eye. By using unfavourable language, one is comitting zina of the tongue. By copying immoral or unfavourable actions, one is committing zina of the body (arms, legs, eyes, brain, etc) as all body parts can be involved.
In Saheeh al-Bukhaari (6343) it is reported that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “ Every son of Adam has his share of zinaa decreed for him, and he will undoubtedly get his share. The eye commits zinaa and its zinaa is looking. The tongue commits zinaa and its zinaa is speaking; the feet commit zinaa and their zinaa is walking; the hands commit zinaa and their zinaa is touching. The heart longs and desires for something and the private parts confirm that or deny it.”He began by mentioning the eye because this is how the zinaa of the hand, foot, heart and private parts begins. By mentioning the zinaa of the tongue, he pointed out that the mouth can commit zinaa by speaking. And he stated that the private parts can confirm that if they make the deed happen, or deny it if that does not happen. This hadeeth gives the clearest indication that the eye can sin by looking and that this is its zinaa. This is a refutation to those who say that looking is allowed in all circumstances.
Watching movies (and that includes playing many of the violent or immoral games) is time wasting. We are all accountable for our use of time. We wil be answerable for how we use our time. The blessing of time is one of the greatest blessings that Allaah can bestow upon His slaves. Allaah even swears by time in some cases, as He says (interpretation of the meaning): "By Al‑‘Asr (the time)”[al-‘Asr 103:1] - because of the importance and blessing of time. And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Make the most of five things before five others: life before death, health before sickness, free time before becoming busy, youth before old age, and wealth before poverty.” See Saheeh al-Jaami’, no. 1077.
But most people are unaware of the importance of this blessing and are neglectful of their duties towards it, namely to fill it with acts of gratitude and obedience towards Allaah. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "There are two blessings which many people do not make the most of and thus lose out: good health and free time.” Narrated by Al-Bukhaari 6412.
You can actually easily come to the realisation that movies, games, chat sites, social networking are all haram. Mostly, they result in zina of some kind and a wasting of time. Sometimes, the rsults can be devastating...eg divorce, murde, lies, deception, evil ideas. Now, there are some who will laugh and say: "What!" but these people fail to understand by not wishing to think deeply enough. But they cannot claim ignorance if they have been warned...understanding or no understanding. So use your time wisely and you will be amazed how much you can achieve in your spare time. Helping others is a good option. May Allaah SWT guide you and all of us. Salaam.
