wa alaikum el salaam,

yes as bro/sister Ibm said the day(yawm) is starting from maghrib/sunset and ends with the sunset.

so the night(el layl) of the higri day(yawm) is coming before its daylight(nahar).

for example, the first day of Ramadan is starting with the maghrib and finish with the next maghrib.. after fagr/dawn of that day we do fasting/seyaam all its daytime/nahaar's hours(from dawn till sunset).
