I know what I'm doing goes way against my username, but I got bored so I'm asking the first question that came to my mind. Is- Just read the title question.

It would seem so.

There are records of imprisonment during the caliphates of Umar, Ali and Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them all).

I understand that the first to build a prison in the true sense of that word (as opposed to a mere house intended to restrict the free movement of the prisoner) was Ali.
