For a revert to give dawah, or for that matter, a born Muslim, what is the best way to tackle say an atheists point of view..... I have spoken to many denominations in my time, and just given facts on Islam. But I feel there are verses from The Quran that can do this job also. Please advise.... this too is a question posed for Amirah, aswell as for myself.

Salamu alaikum dear sister Abyadgirl, we have been told about the way of inviting to Allah in verse(16:125) and it is by three ways; 1.wisdom 2.nice preaching/instruction 3.Argument.

"Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has strayed from His way, and He is most knowing of who is [rightly] guided."(16:125)

so there are 3 ways: Wisdom and this is for the people who seek truth/knowledge and wisdom. and another way is the good preaching/instruction by showing reasons of hope in Allah and reasons of fear Allah for the people who are motivated by hope or the others who are motivated by fear (like the steak and carrot which motivate them to work)( or the good tidings and warnings) .. and finally the last way is the arguing but on its best way, for the people who like to debate/argument/controversy/dispute.(most of disputers are not serious)

And when disputing with the people of the book specifically we are told; " And do not argue with the People of the Scripture except in a way that is best, except for those who commit injustice among them, and say, “We believe in that which has been revealed to us and revealed to you. And our God and your God is one; and we are Muslims [in submission] to Him.”(29:46) so we only argue in a way that is best with them ,except the unjust of them. (who seeks argue for the argue, not arguing for finding the truth).

description of disputers in many verses: " And among them are those who listen to you, but We have placed over their hearts coverings, lest they understand it, and in their ears deafness. And if they should see every sign, they will not believe in it. Even when they come to you arguing with you, those who disbelieve say, "This is not but legends of the former peoples." And they prevent [others] from him and are [themselves] remote from him. And they do not destroy except themselves, but they perceive [it] not." (6:25-26)

" And We send not the messengers except as bringers of good tidings and warners. And those who disbelieve dispute by [using] falsehood to [attempt to] invalidate thereby the truth and have taken My verses, and that of which they are warned, in ridicule."(18:56)

" And of the people is he who disputes about Allāh without knowledge and follows every rebellious devil." (22:3)

" And of the people is he who disputes about Allāh without knowledge or guidance or an enlightening book [from Him], Twisting his neck [in arrogance] to mislead [people] from the way of Allāh. For him in the world is disgrace, and We will make him taste on the Day of Resurrection the punishment of the Burning Fire [while it is said]," (22:8-9

"No one disputes concerning the signs of Allāh except those who disbelieve, so be not deceived by their [uninhibited] movement throughout the land."(40:4)

" Those who dispute concerning the signs of Allāh without an authority having come to them – great is hatred [of them] in the sight of Allāh and in the sight of those who have believed. Thus does Allāh seal over every heart [belonging to] an arrogant tyrant.(40:35)

"Do you not consider those who dispute concerning the signs of Allāh – how are they averted? Those who deny the Book and that with which We sent Our messengers – they are going to know, When the shackles are around their necks and the chains; they will be dragged " (40:69-71)

"And [that is so] those who dispute concerning Our signs may know that for them there is no place of escape." (42:35)

One of the ways of treating with them is to ignore them and it is possible to say to them a deep meaning preaching; "Those are the ones of whom Allāh knows what is in their hearts, so turn away from them but admonish them and speak to them a far-reaching word." (4:36)

"Follow, [O Muúammad], what has been revealed to you from your Lord - there is no deity except Him - and turn away from those who associate others with Allāh." (6:106)

Because whether we invited them or not (debate/argue with them or not), they won't(or they do not want to) believe: "And if you [believers] invite them to guidance, they will not follow you. It is all the same for you whether you invite them or you are silent." (7:193)

we are not suppose to stay with the people who attack our religion until they change the subject; "And when you see those who engage in [offensive] discourse concerning Our verses, then turn away from them until they enter into another conversion. And if Satan should cause you to forget, then do not remain after the reminder with the wrongdoing people." (6:68)

"And it has already come down to you in the Book that when you hear the verses of Allāh [recited], they are denied [by them] and ridiculed; so do not sit with them until they enter into another conversation. Indeed, you would then be like them. Indeed Allāh will gather the hypocrites and disbelievers in Hell all together –" (4:140)

an example of the reaction of some people of the book who believed in Muhammad's message from Allah when hearing ill speech from ignorants; "Those to whom We gave the Scripture before it – they are believers in it. And when it is recited to them, they say, “We have believed in it; indeed, it is the truth from our Lord. Indeed we were, [even] before it, Muslims [submitting to Allāh].” Those will be given their reward twice for what they patiently endured and [because] they avert evil through good, and from what We have provided them they spend. And when they hear ill speech, they turn away from it and say, “For us are our deeds, and for you are your deeds. Peace upon you; we seek not the ignorant.” Indeed, [O Muúammad], you do not guide whom you like, but Allāh guides whom He wills. And He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided.(28:52-56)

Finally what to say for the new/believers; "And when those come to you who believe in Our verses, say, "Peace be upon you. Your Lord has decreed upon Himself mercy: that any of you who does wrong out of ignorance and then repents after that and corrects himself - indeed, He is Forgiving and Merciful.""(6:54)

Allah knows better and Salaam.
