why do we have to kill innocent animals in eid ul azha? I agree that by doing that we're remembering our great ibrahim a.s. by that but what is the celebration in eid all about? killing of an animal? that's it?

AssalamuAlaikum beloved brother

Allah does not need anything. It is He who gives life, and causes death. He created the animal, and even if it were not sacrificed, death someday will overtake it.

Allah says (in translation):

'It is neither their meat nor their blood that reaches Allah, but it is taqwa (piety, devotion, etc) from you that reaches Him. Thus have We subjected them to you that you may glorify Allah for that (to) which He has guided you; and give good tidings to the doers of good. (The Glorious Quran. 22:37)

First one must be very careful of how one poses a question when it concerns Allah azza wal jall, Allah needs nothing. Second the eid is to remeber the ikhlas of our father Ibraheem AS and the Halim of his son Ishmael when he told his father to do what his Rabb has commanded him to do. The sacrafice of the animal is a small part of it. the main focus must be on the fact that ibraheem was called Allah's friend and this is something we as Muslim should strive to be. Ibraheem along with all of the Nabi shared this one quality of sincerity , that being, We hear and we obey. Know we can do all what the Nabi's AS did, accept be a prophet, and without doing what they did we are not believers. The best example of what they all did is in the sunnah of Muhamnad saws. The eid is about the obiedience of Ibraheem to Allah azza wal jall and the reward he recieved for it. Salaam
