Is someone who doesn't consider themselves worthy or capable of marriage to another person worthy of God? I'm sure I read somewhere that the prophet said that "the best among you believers are those that are best to your wives".

I have a mental health condition and lots of issues I need to work through. I need to become a better person before I come to Islam ??

Thank you.

I am trying to understand what you mean by worthy of god". Because one cannot compare himself to the creator and sustainer of the universe . The creator is perfect without error or flaw. As we are not. Now as far as should you become better before you embrace Islam ? I think as long as you believe in Allah as your lord. And you believe that there's no Allah save Allah. And Muhammad saws was indeed the seal of prophets ,and the messanger of Allah. Then you should embrace Islam.

I'm not comparing myself to God, not at all. Just considering if God considers me worthy of help & guidance. Because in most people's eyes, I am not considered to be of much value, having a mental health diagnosis, etc.

well, if you're bipolar you need psychiatric care and find the right meds that may help you stay level. my oldest sister is bipolar and as long as she stayed on her meds she's fine. then she does so well for so long, a couple of years she thinks she is "cured" or something and she stops taking them and has an "episode".

anyway, if you believe in god, why would you think that god would view one of his own creations as "unworthy".

trust me, other people's eyes aren't that important.

Marriage is not a must/obligatory on muslims.

May Allah guide you to your success in this world and the last.

Salaam brother, the fact that you say that you have many problems to work through is even more reason to come to Islam now, and refer the issues you have to the one and only who can help you, Alaah SWT for His power is unparalleled. Do you really want to work through these issues on your own? Believe me, I have tried doing that in the past and found that all the so called support mechanisms around me failed short and were actually there supporting facets of my issues from a completely different direction from how this should have been done. As I didn't know any better I went along with it. My problems just became bigger. Once I turned to Alaah SWT, my problems began to resolve themselves with time. Patience and His guidance are unsurpassed. So do not go about going through this on your own for you have the Best of Helpers and Guides in Him and He is there, all you have to do is reach out to Him and turn to Him.

And Alaah SWT says:

And such as Allah doth guide,  there can be none to lead astray!  Is not Allah Exalted in Power (able to enforce His Will) Lord of Retribution? (39:37)

Do continue with any medical treatments that you may be receiving for the mental condition, but be open to the possibility that even this may change for you once you are being guided closely by Alaah SWT. You will find your way regarding every difficulty and be assured that when matters are placed in His hands, you have the best of guides.

So, brother, make your life easier than it is and seek and accept the help that is waiting for you now. Do not defer it as this is important to you. I don't know if you are a Muslim but just not practising or considering reverting. Whatever the case, you will benefit by acting now. If you are a revert and wish to accept Islam, the best thing that you can do is announce

La ilaha il Allah, Muhammad-ur-Rasool-Allah(None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah).

This has to be not only spoken but also has to come from your heart.

Allah SWT says:

Those who strive in Us We will surely guide them to our path. (29:69)

So strive on the path to Allah.

The power of prayer, seeking guideance in decision making through istikhara, using duaas and learning as you go along will all benefit none other but yourself. And you do not have to overwhelm yourself in your learning but take things at your pace.

May Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'aala guide you and show you the way to an easier life. Salaam
