This word is famous for the shia as when someone says this word, the first thing that comes to a persons mind is "shia". Have people thought wrongly of this day? I looked up a video of what shia people do on this day and honestly, it's very disturbing, the first 20 seconds of the video I was disturbed and immediately closed the tab to not go further into the video. Why do the shia hit themselves with lashes, swords, etc.? Do sunni people do the same thing? What differs the shia from the sunni on this day?

The day of Ashura is marked by Muslims as a whole, but for Shia Muslims it is a major religious commemoration of the martyrdom at Karbala of Hussein, a grandson of the Prophet Muhammad. It falls on the 10th of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
