Now updated: Ramadan calendar -

I am very depressed and feel like committing suicide. I am a Muslim. I feel like life has no meaning and feel like questioning the existence of God. I feel like God doesn't care and just wants to make my life a living hell. I apologize if what I am saying is against the rules because I had no time to read. So I hope that you can find it in your heart to forgive me if I said anything wrong. I really feel like committing suicide, I don't know what I should do, I don't know if God will forgive me for the things I've done.

I pray five times a day, I read the hadith, I try to please God but I find life so difficult. I don't know why God would want to do this to me. God doesn't talk to me or answer my prayers, God seems so harsh and unapproachable, God just seems like he isn't there. And my so-called brothers (and sisters) in Islam aren't much of a help either. I feel like there is not one single human on the face of this planet who can help and understand. I feel like there is no point in living. I might lose my faith any time and just commit suicide.

What can I do?

Once again, sorry if this goes against the rules or offends anyone, I am unable to think clearly at the moment. I just hope I can find help.

Hello, i answered a few questions in which people were trying to look for faith in more detail so hopefully my answers here will be useful to you: (last one on the page)

But briefly, it sounds like you do not have faith in Allah or islam (not judging here, i understand, i never used to be a faithful muslim either, but alhamdullillah i have found faith through education! you can NEVER have faith in something that you know very little about, sounds so obvious, but it took me a while to actually realise this.) Anyway, everything that i recommend is in my answers on those pages above that i've linked to.

P.s. please STOP and find faith. commiting suicide will solve nothing! atleast if you're alive you still have a chance to turn your life around, repent, but once you're dead that's it. Here's a relevant video that You can watch, the lecture is from dr. zakir naik (well renowned islamic scholar)

And I wish you the best of luck! NEVER EVER give up faith in Allah, trust me, my life is 100% content and fullfilled when I practise Islam (which alhamdullilah I am trying to do more and more). My life before islam was empty, the constant questions of 'why am i here' 'what is my purpose in life' were haunting and I can whole-heartedly say that 2 years on after believing in islam i have not had any of those thoughts even ONCE. Islam; This is logically and scientifically the truth.

P.S. I totally recommend watching if you want somewhere to start looking for information - so SO useful.

I thank you for your comment, I may not have the best understanding of Islam, but I have attended talks on Islam, watched some lectures on the internet, and have read a few books on Islam. But I'll be sure to check out the links you provided and seek more knowledge.

Anyway I'm happy to hear that you are happy with your life. I've got a long way to go in life, so I hope that Allah is going to show His mercy to me some time.

Thanks, and salaam.

Salam brother! I dont know but you just made my tears drip away!! be steadfast in your prayers my brother!! You are lucky that despite the fact that you are in great depression you still keep your prayers and commitment to God!! while others give up so easily!

My brother I know you are having some problems believe it or not the hardship endured is directly proportional to the good deeds you will gain! many of the companions were going mad at times they dont experienced hardships and predicaments. they were asking God to send them more hardships for they know that at the end of the road they would gain the love of God and and good deeds. They never wanted an Easy LIFE their only aspiration is to please God! Ive experience worst things but I hold onto HIM! oh, Brother what is life without Trials? (compare your trials to that of prophet Ayoub and youll see!)

To tell you the truth I did blame God for my misfortunes when i was around 6-7 yrs old and I could still remember it. Everytime I remember it I call myself a fooool and when hardships come I thank God! Remember that if God didnt care even for 1 second you would have been dead by now and you would have missed this message your reading now! Be patient my brother!! the fact that ive seen your post is a sign that God cares! I am a new member 13 hours ago!

Thanks for replying. Let me tell you that my fight is not over, and I am doing my very best to keep going. But, I assure you, I'll do my best for Allah. It's difficult, but InshaAllah He will make it easier some time. The truth is that Allah was the only reason that was stopping me from taking that step to take my life, I'm not ready to give up on Him.

All the best, may we meet in Jannah one day.

Some Reasons Why Allah Tests Us by Problems ::...

The problems we face will either defeat us or develop us – depending on how we respond to them. Unfortunately, most people fail to see how Allah wants to use problems for good in their lives. They react foolishly and resent their problems rather than pausing to consider what benefit they might bring.

Here are five ways Allah wants to use the problems in our life:

  1. Allah uses problems to DIRECT us. Sometimes Allah must light a fire under us to get us moving. Problems often point us in a new direction and motivate us to change. Is Allah trying to get our attention? “Sometimes it takes a painful situation to make us change our ways.”

  2. Allah uses problems to INSPECT us. People are like tea bags…if we want to know what’s inside them, just drop them into hot ever water! Has Allah tested our faith with a problem What do problems reveal about us? “When we have many kinds of troubles, we should be full of joy, because we know that these troubles test our faith, and this will give us patience.”

  3. Allah uses problems to CORRECT us. Some lessons we learn only through pain and failure. It’s likely that as a child our parents told us not to touch a hot stove…. But we probably learned by being burned. Sometimes we only learn the value of something… health, money, a relationship,... by losing it. “It was the best thing that could have happened to me, for it taught me to pay attention to Allah's laws.”

  4. Allah uses problems to PROTECT us. A problem can be a blessing in disguise if it prevents us from being harmed by something more serious. “You intended to harm me, but Allah intended it for good…”

  5. Allah uses problems to PERFECT us. Problems, when responded to correctly, are character builders. Allah is far more interested in our character than our comfort. Our relationship to Allah and our character are the only two things we’re going to take with us into eternity. “We can rejoice when we run into problems…they help us learn to be patient.. And patience develops strength of character in us and helps us trust Allah more each time we use it until finally our hope and faith are strong and steady.”

Here’s the point:

Allah is at work in our life – even when we do not recognize it or understand it. But it’s much easier and profitable when we cooperate with Him.

“Success can be measured not only in achievements, but in lessons learned, lives touched and moments shared along the way”

Allah knows best, I thank you for the reply.

Sometimes I feel so much negativity it almost feels like physical pain in my heart. Too much anger and sadness with no outlet.

But I'll consider your reply, I'm told this sometimes, but I suppose I need to be reminded from time to time. Allah reward you. I appreciate the help from everyone, and I'll keep it in my heart.

let me tell you, FIFI ABDU a famous Arabian bellie dancer goes Hajj every year because she wants the hope that she can go to Heaven and she want's Allah to have a little sympathy for her, and UM Kulthumm a famous singer has done the same, if these people have and want a chance to go to heaven and remember that God is the only Judge in the end, the most forgiving. Why commit suicide? You know if you die no Prayer is made for you? you know you are no longer a Muslim? you know that you must remember that the prophet (PBUH) had said "the best of you are those of (believers) who had hardship in their life", and also everyone has IBITLAH (test in life) at least 1 ibtilah every 40 days, and some companions of the Prophet (PBUH) would be sad if they had no Hardship every once and a while, because they think that God has forgotten them. God gives us these Tests in life, to be able to have Patients, this life was created for that. This life is too short, and the afterlife is eternity forever and ever......., Pray and ask for help from God and Imam. Believe me nothing is worth committing Suicide, life is a gift, look at others around you, some much people who have much less in life and still say "Al-hamduallah(thank God)", there are people hungry, people with illness, people with nothing and etc...., there is so much and God has given you, like eyes to see the world around you, I think you need to really learn how to appreciate most things in life people take for granted.

Allah is great and look at Ayyub in the Qur'an In the Qur'an, it states that the Job was a righteous servant of God, who was afflicted by suffering for a lengthy period of time. However, the Qur'an clearly states that Job never lost faith in God and forever called to God in prayer, asking Him to remove his affliction: And Job, when he cried unto his Lord, (saying): Lo! Adversity afflicteth me, and Thou art Most Merciful of all who show mercy. —Qur'an, sura 21 (The Prophets), ayah 83[17] The narrative goes on to state that after many years of suffering, God ordered Job to "Strike with thy foot!".[18] At once, Job struck the ground with his foot and God caused a cool spring of water to gush forth from the Earth, from which Job could replenish himself. The Qur'an states that it was then that God removed his pain and suffering and He returned Job's family to him, blessed him with many generations of children and granted him great wealth. In addition to the brief descriptions of Job's narrative, the Qur'an further mentions Job twice in the lists of those whom God had given special guidance, wisdom and inspiration (IV: 163) and as one of the men who received authority, the Book and the gift of prophethood (VI:84). Look at Youtube videos of Ayyub and other Islamic Prophets and their test, if you understand Arabic listen to Omar Abdel Kafi he is the Best this is a nice lecture about patients part 1 part 2

Dear brother,

I want to tell you that I myself went threw the same thing as you. I have done my wrong and wouldn't forgive myself. I would talk to Allah and ask him for help, and in return, I would get horror night mares that would frighten me and this lasted for years. I felt llke I had no one to turn too. I was embarressed from my family when I would wake up in the middle of the night with my dreams. I still went on with my wrong doings. I prayed and prayed and cried many nights. Tried to committ suicide more then once , but never worked. I thought to myself why I'm I still alive and why isn't God taking me away???? finally I realized that he is punishing me on earth from my bad doings instead of punishing me in hell.. Meaning that God knows and is aware that I want to be good deep down. I fought everything and everyone who will guide me in the wrong paths. Telling me to do the bad then good. Even my thoughts (shaitan) and my emotions. El shaitan would love to see you like this and knows he is winning agains Allah. Ask yourself, who you want to please, where do you want to see yourself in life and in the end when your facing ALLAH??? how about if you did committ suicide and died? How will you face Allah? It would have been too late.. If someone was in your shoes, what would you tell him/her? Keep on praying and beg Allah for help, he will respond. Allah did with me.. Slowly... Allah tests you, just like everyting in life. Nothing comes easy. You have to work hard for anything in order to achive and be at your best. Think about everything this world, and you will realize how hard you have to work in order to succeed in life that Allah has created. Ask yourself what made you feel like this and change it. Only you will be able to answer this. No one can help you but yourself, no one will love you as much as you can love yourself. When you love someone, you will do everything possible to please that person, you learn to forgive, be patient, being a good listener, caring, etc... right? Why shouldn't you do the same for Allah who created everything and everyone around you? if your telling Allah, ok i'm going to pray now, so let's see what you will do? then it won't work.. Allah tests us, we don't test Allah. Be patient, Allah loves all of us and hears us. The time will come for you as it did for me. I am now happily married, I have a beautiful daughter and a muhajiba. Never in my mind would I have thought I would be here where I am today. remember, I was once where you are and disappointed my family from my actions. Now, I have them loving me more then ever. Allah has been more then greatful with me hamd el Allah. Answers all my prayers and Allah shows me my good doing. I don't see anything that I have seen in my past because I took some time to myself and asked myself what I need to change and fixed it. I begged Allah to forgive me by praying every day and talking with Allah every night before I go to bed. Inshallah brother you will be ok. Allah is testing you. El shaitan is trying to win you by his side. Don't let the shaitan win. Please Allah and you will see how everything will soon change. I beieve that all of us muslim brothers and sisters here are sent to you by Allah to tell you, that Allah loves you and Allah is waiting for the change. If you ever need anything, please don't hesitate to ask. I will be checking. I hope I helped. BTW I was searching information about 3omra, and this sight pulled up. I was never a member to this sight, I became a member once I saw your status. I know you will win at the end and will change to the best. I hope when the day comes, I meet you in Jannah inshallah, I know deep down inside of me, that you will be there Inshallah. Depression is a mind game, nothing else. You will win, for you to be here now and not committing suicide, shows how strong you are. If your strong, that means you can overcome anything that is wrong doing. Take life one step at a time. You will face a lot in life, so have the faith and love for Allah so you can have a the best weapon (Allah) to succedd in life. Once again, I once went threw what you went threw and I am here now better then ever.

Allah ma3ak Inshallah, I will be praying for you in my prayers.

The problem is that I feel like such a failure. Everyone has such bad opinions about me and has such bad things to say about me. I feel very upset about this. It makes me feel that I'm such a bad person, even though I try to please people and try to be kind. My parents think I'm a failure. I have dyslexia and ADD. When I'm in anger, I lose. When I'm sad, I lose. I feel that there is no meaning for me in this life and that everyone would be happier if I was dead.

But I will do my absolute best to change.

first, I want to tell you that don't worry what anyone thinks of you. Think to yourself and ask if there is anything that you think you are doing wrong. If there is, chnage it as best as you can at your own pace. Your parents should understand with what you have and that is Allah's will. I am sure they do, but sit down with them and try to be calm and tell them how you feel with no anger. Being loud won't get you any where. You are still very young and have a long way to go. When I was your age that's when everything started with me.

Being depressed, angry and thinking that everyone around me hates me including my parents. But I was wrong, it was my actions that made everyone around me, give me a negative. when I changed and realized what I have to do, everything started to be great. But I started with myself first instead of blaming others. I am not against you, I am trying to help you think outside the box. Start with yourself first and see what you can do better. Please becareful with yourself. Your parents could never hate you or think less of you. Put that in mind. Btw Are you in school?

Yes, I'm in school. Hoping to get into a college this year and study psychology.

I'll take your advice, I do need to move on with my life. Problem is the past still hurts. I know that I need to change myself for the better. I will also accept the fact that my parents do love me.

hmm... I ever encounter this kind of feeling... like want to commit suicide, but because I believe that Allah exist and I scare if I die I will straight go to hell, FOREVER, that's prevent me doing it.

I believe that Allah exist because I ever make dua, I forgot whether when I still in elementary school or junior high school, and I forgot what's the dua as well, but I still remember how happy I am when Allah answer my pray. so if my dua not answered by Allah, I always think that maybe I did something wrong.

so, what should I say... well I don't know what is your problem, if you mention it to us, maybe we can look for solution together. if there is a mosque in your neighborhood that held some kind of tausiyah, attend that tausiyah.

you need to leave everything on Allah as Allah knows whats best for you, we as human beings do not have the power to decide the best for ourselves, Allah knows the best for us, so you need to leave everything on Allah. you will see that once you leave all your matters on Allal, all issues will start to solve in minutes and you will be surprised.

my brother dont lose hope,be patient because all good things come to those who wait.what is better,to suffer on earth and enjoy in heaven or vice versa?dont be sad,be happy, dont compare yourself to people who are better than u,compare yourself to people who are worse than u,u want to commit suicide, think of those who are killed innocently, those who died without knowing the truth, look at u,u even have money to surf the internet, but do u know that there are people out there who wish to have what u have?think of the orphans, think of those who are mad, think of those who are sick in hospitals, look at the poor, look at the lame, just look at the less privaledged in society and compare yourself to them.dont u think allah is very merciful to u?dont only thank him when u are in good health and everything is moving smoothly in your life but let your faith be strengthened when u are in problems, because others have WORSE PROBLEMS THAN WHAT U ARE GOING begin by asking Allah's forgiveness by doubting his existance, then thank him for whatever problems u are facing, because otherts have worse problems than what u have.
