it means "Only those people will enter Jannah whom Allah favours".

What it means is that we should ask Allah to be kind and shower us with his favours, so that we die as Muslims. Otherwise, we could live as Muslims all our lives, and then end up losing Allahs grace, and die a disbeliever.

It also means that ultimately, it is Allah who chooses who goes to Jannah, we do not have a right to demand it based on our actions.

Generally though, those that do good all their lives are blessed by Allah and enter Jannah, and those who do evil all their lives end up in jahannam.
