In the book of Allah iblis was cursed for not bowing down when the angels were ordered to. Why was he cursed when the angels was commanded to bow down not him for iblis is a jin, so the command was not for him?

It is We Who created you and gave you shape; then We bade the angels prostrate to Adam, and they prostrate; not so Iblis; He refused to be of those who prostrate.7:11 (Iblis was Indeed not an angel. We know this because he said He would NOT bow down to that which was made out of clay and He was made out of a smokeless flame of fire.) And (remember) when We said to the angels: "Prostrate yourselves before Adam.". And they prostrated except Iblis (Satan), he refused and was proud and was one of the disbelievers (disobedient to Allah).2:34.And (remember) when We said to the angels: "Prostrate yourselves to Adam." They prostrated (all) except Iblis (Satan), who refused.20:116 Allah) said: "What prevented you (O Iblis) that you did not prostrate, when I commanded you?" Iblis said: "I am better than him (Adam), You created me from fire, and him You created from clay."7:12.Allah) said: "(O Iblis) get down from this (Paradise), it is not for you to be arrogant here. Get out, for you are of those humiliated and disgraced."7:13 7:14 7:15 7:16 7:17 And 7:18. here we will look deeper than Iblis being arrogant and proud. Iblis (Satan)] said: "I am not the one to prostrate myself to a human being, whom You created from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud." 15:33 As you can see Iblis was indeed the first racist against the new creation of the Almighty supreme . I seek Refuge in Allah from that salaam

Salam sadie, just a question. Do you know the whole quran off by heart? Because it seems as if all of the questions being asked here you manage to provide quranic references, mashallah.

Salaam Brother I do not know it all by heart only a small part. That being said when I read a question and go to Qur'an and search for the ayat (s) that are needed This helps me learn Alhamdulillah . I only know 10 Sura (small) and 2 ayats by heart in Arabic,. English is my native tongue. Insha allah one day I will be hafiz in Qur'an. insha allah . Also I didn't answer this question completely my brothers I still haven't answered the point of the question which is why did Iblis get cursed if he wasnt commanded to do it (he is not an angel) Maybe you can or Faisal26 can answer that part of it

Sadie, you have provided a verse that explains everything, but you probably haven't expanded the meaning from that verse, since you gave me a chance to answer, I will explain it for you. In Surat Al-'A`raf verse 12: (Allah) said: "What prevented you (O Iblis) that you did not prostrate, when I commanded you?" Iblis said: "I am better than him (Adam), You created me from fire, and him You created from clay." From this verse, you can tell that the Angels weren't only commanded, Iblis was also commanded. Also, in Surat Al-Kahf verse 50: And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except for Iblees. He was of the jinn...(there is still more to this verse but this is the main point), in this verse, the command was to the angels, after they prostrated, Iblis was then commanded after them, and that's when he didn't prostrate. Hope this answer helps, salaam.

@omar in sura 2:34 the arabia says the command was given to the malaakat, and that is the angels, so explain how the verse you used state that Allah commanded iblis when all the verses says clearly that the command was given to the angels nowhere does it state that it was given to jinn. Unless you are suggesting that iblis was an angel? Your answer shows a contradiction in the quran if you don't explain your answer further. So do explain!!! Salaam

Brother yaqin, the first verse I provided speaks for itself, Allah says: What prevented you that you did not prostrate when I COMMANDED YOU, so in this case, can't you see that Iblis was also commanded not only the angels? You can't deny in this verse that Iblis wasn't commanded, yes he isn't an angel but there was another command for Iblis which he did not follow. Think of it like this, Allah ordered the Angels to prostrate, and they did, Allah then made another order to Iblis, and he didn't prostrate. Did this answer explain your question for you now? Salaam.

Also brother yaqin, is Arabic not your main language? Because if it was, you would have been able to fully understand it's meaning.

@omar Beloved I never ask a question I don't know the answer to, second you did a good job, let me say that, I understand clearly what Allah azza wal jall has said. My question is why was it that iblis was to follow the command when it was not directed to him, that being because he heard it. No he is not an angel this we both know but he was amongst the angels and Allah is his Rabb as all of us, so when the command was given all that heard it must comply. It is the same for those that hear the call of islam they must adhere to it for if they don't then they have followed the footsteps of the

Shaytan by not following the command of Allah azza wal jall, why because they heard it. The answer is this simple my beloved brother. Salaam

Your answer was exactly how it was in my mind but it was too hard for me to explain it in English. As I mainly speak Arabic to my family, I was told the same answer you wrote, and I understood it, but it was too hard for me to translate it to English. It's a very good question though, salaam.

(Nov 30 '13 at 01:04) omar omar's gravatar image

@omar the importance of my question is that it was presented to me by an enemy of islam in a religious talk, he claimed the quran contradicted itself and he used my question as proof also your reply. This is why I asked you to explain more. Allah azza wal jall has commanded us in sura 12:108 to invite to islam with baseerah a crystal clear inviting. So when explaining islam we must make it clear. Always remember that. May Allah reward you. salaam

Aww,

Although Iblis was not an angel, he had spent a long time with them, and had become just like them. Thus, when Allah told the angels to bow, since Iblis was with them, he was to bow, but he didnt. Allah didnt say "O angels - bow down" but rather addressed all those present and told them to bow down. Iblis was also present, and should have bowed down, but didnt, which was why he was expelled.
