Is there any wrong if a imam ask someone on the masala a question during the khutbar and be answered, does this go against the sunnah? If so explain, if not why is it not being done.

Brother what is masala? Are you saying can you ask questions when the imam is giving khutbah during jumuah.if that is correct. .tgen I can tell you that you are forbidden to even talk during the khutbah let alone being allowed to ask questions. You can ask questions after the salah is over.

@Faisal I ment the musala, I understand your answer but I want to know if the imam ask someone in the audience a question is this wrong and if one is asked can he answer the imam and I'm talking about at jummah during the khutbar. I humbly await your reply. Salaam

Salam brother yaqin, to answer your question, no, the Iman isn't allowed to ask a question during the khutba as it is prohibited for the listeners to speak. Otherwise if they speak, they will lose the reward that they could have gotten by being quiet. If the Iman asks a question, he will then take their sins as he is making them speak which they shouldn't be. However, if the Imam asks a rhetorical question without the intention of making them speak, then that is allowed. Salaam.

Sorry, I don't have proof, I've did alot of research on this topic and everyone says the same thing, it is prohibited for the listeners to speak during the khutba, anything that disturbs others from listening is not allowed.

@Omar, beloved it is always a pleasure to converse with you, I beg Allah to increase you with knowledge, Ameen. With that said lets proceed. You are correct that one in the audience is not to speak according to the consenus of the scholars, now what I'm about to convey to you is not to contradict them. First and foremost, we must accept the fact that if the Rasul saws has done something in the authenticated sunnah than we should do this also right? In the book zad ul ma''ad by ibn Qayyim he states and I qoute: " Sometimes, he saws would stop khutbar to answer a question asked by one his sahabah he saws would explain then continue his khutbar. He would speak to some of his sahabah while giving the khutbar ordering them to come, sit or pray." Proof from the sunnah, " Reported by Anas ibn Malik, On a friday a person entered the main masjid through the gate facing the pulpit while Allah's apostle,saws, was delivering the khutbar. The man stood In front of the Rasul saws and said, O, Rasul saws, the livestock are dying and the roads are cut off; so please pray for rain." Anas added, the Rasul saws raised his both hands and said O Allah bless us with rain! Three times." Beloved this hadith is in both al bukhari (957) and sahih muslim (1493). If you read the hadith in its entirety you will see the man did this twice and was not admonished for his actions. Did he lose his reward for asking or did the Rasul lose his for answering? I seek refuge with Allah from that. Now lets look at the proof for the imam asking questions as the shaykh has stated the Rasul saws did. In his farewell khutbar there were thousands of muslims present and the Rasul asked them several times has he conveyed the message and all the muslims present there answered him. This hadith is sahih and well known. Now did all of those present lose there reward for answering or did the Rasul saws lose his for asking? I seek refuge with Allah from that. Now lets explore what you are talking about inshallah, it has been reported by Abu Hurairah, The Rasul odered the congregation to draw close to where he was standing and to pay close attention to the khutbar. He saws said to them if a man said to his fellow, Listen, he would have committed Laghu. He saws said he who commits Laghu has no jummah." (Al bukhari 882, and muslim 1404) Also read the hadith reported by Ubai ibn Ka'b found in ibn Majah collection and in the musnad Ahmad (20325).

My point is that if one speaks to his fellow brother while the khutbar is being delivered than he is in error. But I asked can the imam ask a question and get an answer, and the answer is yes. Shaykh ibn Qayyim says this practice is an abandoned sunnah, just as Shaykh Albani has pionted out the hadith reported by Sa'id al khudri, "One jummah the Rasul saws sat on the minbar and we sat all around him." The shaykh albani said in a athar: "This had become among the ignored types of sunnah. Therefore those who love the sunnah should resurrect this aspect of it." And I say the same about the asking of questions during the khutbar, May Allah azza wal jall guide you. Salaam

@omar beloved there are three ways to aquire knowledge in islam, the first is divine inspiration and that ended with the Rasul saws, the next is by word of mouth and this is not good for without investagation this is taqleed blind following and this is haram. The next is intense study under the guidance of one with ilm to assist you. Now to answer your question this is how i came across these hadiths intense study. Salaam
