Aslam,

I am seventeen right now and a female. About 6 years ago when my grandparents came here to visit us, my parents and they planned my engagement to my cousin and my sister and I weren't informed. They hid this from us until my cousins told us to cause trouble and break the relationship. The guy chosen is not to my liking and I have told my parents that I will not marry him. They refuse to listen. According to Islam ,what are my right? My mom said that my dad would not listen and neither is she listening when she hates the family they want me to marry into. If I am forced I will say no on the day of the marriage, I just don't care. But what do you think I should do.

According to Islam, a girl can not be forced into a marriage that she dislikes. One of the women during the time of the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم was in this situation and she went to complain to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم about it. And he cancelled the marriage. So your right is to marry whoever you want, as long as your wali (in this case, your dad) also consents. So you two should come to an agreement on who you want to marry. Remind your parents that a forced marriage is not valid, Islamically. May Allah سبحانه و تعالى give you a righteous husband.
