I know culturally, usually in eastern/indian cultures it is recommended and usually girls have very long hair, and culturally it is considered bad to cut hair- to make it short, NOT trim?

I would like to know what is the correct islamic view on this?

CHAPTER:The use of false hair

(the daughter of Abu Bakr) Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) has cursed such a lady as artificially lengthening (her or someone else's) hair or gets her hair lengthened. [ Sahih al-Bukhari 5936 In-book reference: Book 77, Hadith 151]

There is no specific hadeeth (yet found) regarding cutting hair is permissible but they should, not be cut in a way which imitates the other gender (have you heard the famous boy-cut?):

Chapter on manners

"The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) cursed the women who imitate men and the men who imitate women."[English reference: Vol. 1, Book 41, Hadith 2784]

Jazakallah khair, hope this is of any use to you.

Ok thanks. Erm it doesn't really answer my question. So is there no definite answer whether cutting hair is a problem (shortening it)?
