Now updated: Islam.com Ramadan calendar - islam.com/salat

I was born in Tehran, Iran. I am 18 years old, and my parents are Afghani. My family claims to be muslim but my parents never talk about anything religious or teach us anything. They always watch TV 24/7 and nothing but Music and Series.

All I know is that I am twelver, and an ahl'l bayt. I am Shia. Other than that, I know there are 124,000 Prophets, 12 Imams of which the 12th is the messiah.

But how can I become a muslim? I don't have anyone to look upto, and we never go to masjid. My parents never pray namaaz, my siblings are westernised, and my older brother has intercourse with a new girl every week. I could just as easily take that path, but there is a sense of enlightenment in me which saves me from committing such sin.

So please help me. How can I become muslim? I want to accept God to the fullest. For starters, I listen to Quran instead of music, and I read instead of watching TV.

Salam Brother, it is easy to become a practicing Muslim. From my understanding, you just need to differentiate between a Muslim and sects. At the time of the Prophet (SAW) there was nothing like Sunni and Shiates; these groups are created by us. Read the Quran and go online such as islamtomorrow.com you will know something about you deen. If you need any help let me know. My email dembobakary76@gmail.com

Salam My Muslin Brother:

If you want to learn about Islam through the teachings of Ahlul Bayt, I would like you to read Nahjul Baligah, which is a collection of Imam Ali's(a.s) teachings, letters, sayings, and how he dealt with people. It is true what the previous answerer said, that there were no such thing as shia and suni at the time of the prophet (peace be upon him and his household), but its a matter of cilaphate when the Holy Prophet past away. If you want to learn about the imams, I would like you to learn about Imam Hussein First. Afterwards, i would ask you watch a series of Imam Ali ibn Musa Al-Retha (the 8th Imam) called Wilayat E Ishq on youtube that I would HIGHLY recommend you to watch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peAPtE_WuFI -- this is episode 1 and there are 32 episodes, each being roughly 40 minutes long. I would also ask you to memorize their names in order of their Imamate:

Imam Ali Ibn Abi Talib, Imam Hassan ibn Ali, Imam Hussein (Shaheedu Karbalah) ibn Ali, Imam Ali Ibn Hussein Zayn Al-Abadeen, Imam Mohammad Ibn Ali Al-Baqir, Imam Jafar ibn Mohammad Al-Sadiq, Imam Musa ibn Jafar Al-Kathim, Imam Ali ibn Musa Al-Retha, Imam Mohammad ibn Ali Al-Jawad, Imam Ali inb Mohammad Al-Hadi, Imam Hassan Ibn Ali Al-Askari, and (The Qaim 3ajal Allah Farajah) Imam Mohammah Ibn Hassan Al-Mahdi (Peace be upon all of them together).

Read Qur'an frequently and Pray on time as often as possible, Recite Supplications (Dua'a), if you have any questions regarding Shiasm and its perspective on anything, email me at moussaouigabe4@yahoo.com

I hope this answered some of your questions. Alasamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatoo.

The first man of the earth was Prophet Adam (pbuh) and he was a Muslim, thus from then till now and till the earth will take breath, every single human born as a Muslim no matter where/what he or she learning customs. You are a Muslim brother, listening Quran is a big thing you are doing at the moment instead of crowdy crap music. Keep on it and Quran is the only guidance for mankind. Allah says it in Quran. Don't indulge into sectors, don't look others, be patient and persistent in following Islam. Just be like a Muslim and act like a Muslim. Study Quran and study Ahadeeth (Life of Prophet Muhammad [pbuh]). Read, first Kalimah of Islam, La Ilaah Il Lal Laah Muhhamadurrasoolullaah. Which means, There is NO GOD except ALLAH and Muhammad (pbuh) is his messenger.

Thus Study La Ilaah Il Lal Laah in Quran and Study Muhhamadurrasoolullaah in Ahadeeth

and pray and make wishes for your loved ones and whole ummah for guidance from Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'aala. May Allah ease you in your journey. All good words are from Allah and all bad are from me and satan. May Allah give us guidance. Aameen.
