When The Prophet fled Mecca for Medina, was there any significance for him to flee to Medina?

Let me clarify a little here. I think I understand why he had to flee but why did he choose Medina? What was it about Medina that made The Prophet go there?

It is because rasulallah said to madina people in bei3at al 3aqapa when they converted islam and were afraid that rasullah wouldn't live with them, "أنتم مني وأنا منكم‏‏‏‏‎"‎ " i am from you and you are from me"and he promised 2 stay with them. He asked allah to make his love 4 madina get bigger even more than mecca. Wa Allah a'lam

At first, before Rasulallah openned Mecca (al fath), he went to madina cause of Quraish people. But after al fath, Mecca was safe and rasulallah could stay there but he prefered Medina because of the reason I have said above.

The quraish people of Mecca grew very oppressing to rasulullah pbuh and his followers. furthermore, people of Madina at that time(Yathrib) needed a leader and called upon rasulullah pbuh to lead and unite them. and so the pilgrimage to madina begun
