Hi, i am 18 yrs old boy lives in Essex. My question is very simple that why we are not allowed to have dogs. I was gonna buy a dog because all of my friends have it but my mum told me that we Muslims can't have dogs because it stops angels to enter in a house. The thing I don't understand how an earth dog stops angels to enter and secondly why dogs are considered as dirty animals in Islam. You know what my mum said black dogs are strongly prohibited in Islam as they are some sort of devil. Why Allah made his creature some sort of satan if it is black. Why am I getting a feeling that we are so superstitious. I was reading a book called asoy Hasna basically Based on Muhammad (pbuh) life. When I read that book it tells our last prophet was so kind and humble and I was amazed by his attitude how can a person be like this. He never ever hurt anyone (animals)physically or mentally. But when I read hadith it tells me a different story that he (pbuh) ordered to kill all dogs and when he realised that his(pbuh) companions are killing all the dogs indiscriminately he said kill those dogs who either black spots on eyes as it's kinda devil or something or black ones. Did Allah really wanted his creature to be killed just because they were black? Don't you think it's a violence against animals? Why can't we have a lovely pet who understands you sometimes more than humans!! I can't tell my friends why I can't have a dog as you know here in the uk people had a wrong perception about Islam and I don't want to be that person who makes the image much more worst than it is now.

The only reason why the brother asks this question is perhaps deep down he knows Islam is the truth, and he wants an end to his doubts so that he can return to the submission of Allah fully. Therefore I congratulate him for asking, and I pray Allah subhanahu wataAla clears all confusion for you. Ameen.

Masha Allah brother.

Assalamu Alaykum,

Narrated Ibn Umar:

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, "Whoever keeps a (pet) dog which is neither a watch dog nor a hunting dog, will get a daily deduction of two Qirat from his good deeds."

(Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 7, Book 67, Hadith 389)

Narrated Abu Talha:

The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, "Angels do not enter a house that has either a dog or a picture in it."

(Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 54, Hadith 539)

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Messenger (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, "If a dog drinks from the utensil of anyone of you it is essential to wash it seven times."

(Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 4, Hadith 173)

EXPLANATION:

  • Dogs itself are not naajis (impure) but their saliva is naajis (impure). This is why if a dog drinks from a utensil it had to be washed seven times.
  • According to the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) dogs should not be kept as pets because Angels will not come near a Muslim's house because Angels are pure creatures of Allah (Angels go where their is cleanness, therefore dogs should not be inside or outside your house).
  • Dogs are kept as a watch dog or hunting dog. If a Muslim keeps a dog as a pet a Muslim will lose 2 Qirat daily (this is equal to two huge mountains).

QUESTION TO THINK ABOUT: Would you rather earn 2 Qirat daily and enter Jannah OR keep a dog as a pet and lose daily 2 Qirat of good deeds?

Narrated Abu Dharr:

The Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, "When anyone of you stands for prayer and there is a thing before him equal to the back of the saddle that covers him and in case there is not before him (a thing) equal to the back of the saddle, his prayer would be cut off by (passing of an) ass, woman and black dog. I said, O Abu Dharr, what feature is there in a black dog which distinguish it from the red dog and the yellow dog? He said, "O, son of my brother, I asked the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) as you are asking me, and he said, The black dog is a devil."

(Sahih Muslim, Book 4, Hadith 299)

Abu Zubair heard Jabir bin Abdullah saying:

Allah's Messenger (Sallallhu Alaihi Wasallam) ordered us to kill dogs, and we carried out this order so much so that we also kill the dog coming with a woman from the desert. Then Allah's Apostle (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) forbade their killing. He (the Prophet) further said, "It is your duty the jet-black (dog) having two spots (on the eyes), for it is a devil.

(Sahih Muslim, Book 22, Hadith 59)

EXPLANATION:

  • Black dogs hear means that Shaitan (Devil) can take the form of a black dog. Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) meant that only kill black dogs that have two spots on their eyes because these black dogs with the two spots are the devil.

Narrated Abu Musa:

Allah's Messenger (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, "The example of a good companion (who sits with you) in comparison with a bad one, is I like that of the musk seller and the blacksmith's bellows (or furnace) from the first you would either buy musk or enjoy its good smell while the bellows would either burn your clothes or your house, or you get a bad nasty smell thereof."

(Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 3, Book 34, Hadith 314)

EXPLANATION:

  • This means there are friends that help you with Deen (religion Islam) and help you strengthen you Iman (belief in Allah). On the other hand there are friend that try to corrupt you and influence negative thinking by slowing causing you to adopt their way of thinking, then adopting their practices. Please by careful around such friends!

QUESTION TO THINK ABOUT:

You said that you wanted to purchase a dog because your friends had dogs. Don't you think you are trying to show off and fit in with them and disregarding you religion (Islam)?

You believe that your friends and people in the UK have wrong perception about Islam. Do you not think it is you that has a wrong perception of Islam and even doubting about your mother's advice by looking up in a book that says Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ordered the killing of dogs and assume that the Islam promotes violence to animals? (This is Shaytan causing you to doubt your Deen (religion Islam).

ADVICE:

  • Obey your mother (leads you to Jannah as your mother will be happy that you respect her) and not go behind your mother's back and purchase as dog.
  • Don't just read one book and think that Islam promotes violence on animals when in fact this is not true. You should read Hadiths to understand the reason behind Prophet's (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) order of killing black dogs.
  • Read Hadiths to understand what Islam has forbidden and not forbidden. If in doubt go to Islamic scholar who understands this or come to this site to clarify your doubts.
  • Also if you have friends that don't understand Islam then make them understand (there is no sin in explaining / teaching a non-Muslim about your religion (Islam) or don't be friends with such people, become friends with other Muslims (these friends can help you strengthen your Iman)
  • Please do not think that you live or are born in a Western country adopted westernized views/culture to fit in. You should be proud of the fact that you are born a Muslim not proud of the fact that you live or are born in a Western country.

Subhan Allah you explained it really good. I'll stick with your advice because at the end of the day I am a Muslim, so there should be difference between me and non Muslims

I am a sister not a brother.

Chose the name because Ninja - means assassin Black - symbolism for darkness or doubt 666 - means Satan, Devil

If you put it together it would say assassin who kills doubt caused by Satan.

do muslims read the book of revelations by john? you consider 666 to be the number of the beast?

(May 08 at 11:41) mikejm4 mikejm4's gravatar image

I have not read the book of revelations. I chose the number 666 as in movies it is a symbolism for Satan (Devil) and many people recognize it as they symbolism for Satan (Devil).

(May 09 at 19:42) NinjaBlack666 NinjaBlack666's gravatar image

yes it is a symbol for satan. from the book of revelations. don't remember it exactly but something about 'the mark of the beast shall be put on their forehead and right hand. the number 666.' first you have the four horsemen of the apocalypse and then a dragon with 7 heads I think, it goes on and on. kind of like gog and magog as a plague on earth and then allah send the worms to burrow into their necks and kill them and then the rains and on and on.
