Hi, i am 18 yrs old boy lives in Essex. My question is very simple that why we are not allowed to have dogs. I was gonna buy a dog because all of my friends have it but my mum told me that we Muslims can't have dogs because it stops angels to enter in a house. The thing I don't understand how an earth dog stops angels to enter and secondly why dogs are considered as dirty animals in Islam. You know what my mum said black dogs are strongly prohibited in Islam as they are some sort of devil. Why Allah made his creature some sort of satan if it is black. Why am I getting a feeling that we are so superstitious. I was reading a book called asoy Hasna basically Based on Muhammad (pbuh) life. When I read that book it tells our last prophet was so kind and humble and I was amazed by his attitude how can a person be like this. He never ever hurt anyone (animals)physically or mentally. But when I read hadith it tells me a different story that he (pbuh) ordered to kill all dogs and when he realised that his(pbuh) companions are killing all the dogs indiscriminately he said kill those dogs who either black spots on eyes as it's kinda devil or something or black ones. Did Allah really wanted his creature to be killed just because they were black? Don't you think it's a violence against animals? Why can't we have a lovely pet who understands you sometimes more than humans!! I can't tell my friends why I can't have a dog as you know here in the uk people had a wrong perception about Islam and I don't want to be that person who makes the image much more worst than it is now.
Narrated Ibn Umar:
The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, "Whoever keeps a (pet) dog which is neither a watch dog nor a hunting dog, will get a daily deduction of two Qirat from his good deeds."
(Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 7, Book 67, Hadith 389)
Narrated Abu Talha:
The Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, "Angels do not enter a house that has either a dog or a picture in it."
(Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 54, Hadith 539)
Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah's Messenger (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, "If a dog drinks from the utensil of anyone of you it is essential to wash it seven times."
(Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 4, Hadith 173)
QUESTION TO THINK ABOUT: Would you rather earn 2 Qirat daily and enter Jannah OR keep a dog as a pet and lose daily 2 Qirat of good deeds?
Narrated Abu Dharr:
The Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, "When anyone of you stands for prayer and there is a thing before him equal to the back of the saddle that covers him and in case there is not before him (a thing) equal to the back of the saddle, his prayer would be cut off by (passing of an) ass, woman and black dog. I said, O Abu Dharr, what feature is there in a black dog which distinguish it from the red dog and the yellow dog? He said, "O, son of my brother, I asked the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) as you are asking me, and he said, The black dog is a devil."
(Sahih Muslim, Book 4, Hadith 299)
Abu Zubair heard Jabir bin Abdullah saying:
Allah's Messenger (Sallallhu Alaihi Wasallam) ordered us to kill dogs, and we carried out this order so much so that we also kill the dog coming with a woman from the desert. Then Allah's Apostle (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) forbade their killing. He (the Prophet) further said, "It is your duty the jet-black (dog) having two spots (on the eyes), for it is a devil.
(Sahih Muslim, Book 22, Hadith 59)
Narrated Abu Musa:
Allah's Messenger (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said, "The example of a good companion (who sits with you) in comparison with a bad one, is I like that of the musk seller and the blacksmith's bellows (or furnace) from the first you would either buy musk or enjoy its good smell while the bellows would either burn your clothes or your house, or you get a bad nasty smell thereof."
(Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 3, Book 34, Hadith 314)
QUESTION TO THINK ABOUT:
You said that you wanted to purchase a dog because your friends had dogs. Don't you think you are trying to show off and fit in with them and disregarding you religion (Islam)?
You believe that your friends and people in the UK have wrong perception about Islam. Do you not think it is you that has a wrong perception of Islam and even doubting about your mother's advice by looking up in a book that says Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ordered the killing of dogs and assume that the Islam promotes violence to animals? (This is Shaytan causing you to doubt your Deen (religion Islam).
Guide us to the straight path -- Surah Al-Fatihah, Verse 6, Qur'an
