Hi,

I'm a 29 year old married woman. I've spent many years in severe depression. I was brought up with very strict parents and unfortunately as a result I deviated from the path. I know I can't blame my upbringing but that coupled with horrible depression has made me very unclear as a person.

Any way I did rediscover my faith and no matter what, I have always believed in Allah. However my question is this, for the past few years I have been what I know to be someone who is not a good person. I made many mistakes and I've hurt myself and other people especially my husband. I feel lost and I am unable to understand how to change.

However the past few months things have been better. I have been blessed in ways which I feel I do no deserve as I have not been a good person. My question is does Allah still help people like me? Is there a reason for it? I don't believe I am worthy and I am scared all these good things will go away. Maybe it sounds stupid but I cannot believe that Allah would still help me after how disappointing I have been.

Please help

If you read all 99 attributes of Allah you will understand why he helps you eg

He is Al-Waliy (The Friend, Patron and Helper), The Beneficent, The Merciful, etc

First of all, Allah سبحانه و تعالى is most Merciful. If you repent sincerely, then He would forgive you even if your sins reached the skies. There is no one on the planet right now who has never sinned. Everyone sins! But in different ways. The best of people are those of us who repent, as our beloved Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said. So you just need to constantly repent. Ask Allah سبحانه و تعالى for forgiveness and also ask those who you might have hurt. Mend things with them. Sincere repentance cancels what came before it and Allah سبحانه و تعالى turns bad deeds into good deeds, as mentioned in Qur'an. :)

Secondly, it is not right for you to lose hope of the Mercy of Allah سبحانه و تعالى. Only disbelievers do this. Believers know that they have a Merciful Creator. He provides for us, gives us what is good and eventually will let people into Jannah .. and we do not deserve that. But the proper thing to do is to thank Him.. (acknowledging that we could never thank Him enough - this is giving true thanks).

Finally.. if you feel lost, then you need to turn to what Allah سبحانه و تعالى sent us, i.e His Word (Qur'an). Read it, understand it, and benefit from it. Allah سبحانه و تعالى said: "This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah.." (2:2).

May Allah make things easier on you :)
