Is it a sin not to get married? I'm a male.

Narrated Anas bin Malik:

A group of three men came to the houses of the wives of the Prophet asking how the Prophet worshipped (Allah), and when they were informed about that, they considered their worship insufficient and said, "Where are we from the Prophet as his past and future sins have been forgiven." Then one of them said, "I will offer the prayer throughout the night forever." The other said, "I will fast throughout the year and will not break my fast." The third said, "I will keep away from the women and will not marry forever." Allah's Apostle came to them and said, "Are you the same people who said so-and-so? By Allah, I am more submissive to Allah and more afraid of Him than you; yet I fast and break my fast, I do sleep and I also marry women. So he who does not follow my tradition in religion, is not from me (not one of my followers)."

Bukhari: Volume 7, Book 62, Number 1

Narrated 'Abdullah:

We were with the Prophet while we were young and had no wealth whatever. So Allah's Apostle said, "O young people! Whoever among you can marry, should marry, because it helps him lower his gaze and guard his modesty (i.e. his private parts from committing illegal sexual intercourse etc.), and whoever is not able to marry, should fast, as fasting diminishes his sexual power."

Volume 7, Book 62, Number 4

The message appears to be that if a man can afford to marry then he should; and if he cannot afford to marry then he shouldn’t.

I hope this helps.

The hadith I have in mind concerns the payment of a dowry. People who know more than I - and there are many - say the lesson here is that the dowry need not be extravagant....but only what the man can afford at the time.

right but the guy litterally had nothing. seems like he couldn't afford to marry anyone.

Be careful what you wish for!

true. but trust me. i'm over insured and my house was built in 1923. i know that is a pup by old world standards, but for florida that is ancient. plus it is wood frame. the termites, the wood rot, the windows are leaky, no insulation. clean slate would be best. and despite my lack of godliness i'm too ethical to turn to jewish lightning. ;)

LOL. Only be sure you're not at home when the wind blows

no, i'm not that stupid to try to ride the storm out in that wooden box. ma and pa have one of them new fangled cement block houses. or my sisters house actually has hurricane proof windows. i think her house was built after andrew, it so might even have hurricane straps to help hold the roof down.

10th anniversary of the big four of the 04 season. charley was supposed to come right through, but it made a hard right like 12 hours before it was do and hit poor little punta gorda instead. oh well, near miss.

but didn't i read here once or twice that muslims don't do insurance? it's haram?
