It is said in Ayaat 69 of Surah An-Nahl that Bees eat nectar from fruits. But from what i heard, Bees eat neo-pollen of flowers.
‘It is Allah who sends water down from the sky and with it revives the earth when it is dead. There truly is a sign in this for people who listen. In livestock, too, you have a lesson – We give you a drink from the contents of their bellies, between waste matter and blood, pure milk, sweet to the drinker. From the fruits of date palms and grapes you take sweet juice and wholesome provisions. There truly is a sign in this for people who use their reason. And your Lord inspired the bee, saying: ‘Build yourselves houses in the mountains and trees and what people construct. Then feed on all kinds of fruit and follow the ways made easy for you by your Lord.’ From their bellies comes a drink of different colours in which there is healing for people. There truly is a sign in this for those who think’.
(Al-Nahl: 65 - 69).
The words: ‘Then feed on all kinds of fruit’ are also translated: ‘Then eat of all the produce (of the earth)’.
'Then feed on all kinds of fruit’:
In general, fruits develop through four principal stages: bud; flower; petal fall; and fruit set.
Bees certainly feed on both floral and fruit nectar. In autumn, bees may become troublesome in orchards or gardens when feeding on damaged, dropped or overripe fruit.
'Then eat of all the produce (of the earth)’.
Meaning that bees may eat all food available to them, both floral and extrafloral. Fruit and non-fruit.
There is no problem with these verses. The problem lies with those who know little about the Qur’an (or who seek to belittle it), or about melittology (the study of bees).
By the way, the verbs dealing with verses 68 and 69 (اتَّخِذِي and كُلِي respectively) take the feminine form; and refer to female bees in particular, not bees in general.
As you know, worker bees are all female; a fact known only recently, and certainly not to those in the time of the Prophet (sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam). Make of that what you will.
I hope this helps.
Alhamdulillah, you have just cleared my confusion by answering it clearly:)
