I wanted to ask that I heard Satan(Shaytan) was an angel before but I don't know the whole story and would like to know what happened and what did he do.

Behold, Thy LORD Said to the angels, “I am about to Create a human being from clay.

When I Have Fashioned him and Breathed into him from My Spirit, fall down in obeisance unto him”.

So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together.

Except Iblees, he was haughty and was among the unbelievers.

Said, “O Iblees, what prevented you from prostrating yourself to whom I Have Created with My Hands, Are you haughty or you were from the mighty ones.

Said, “I am better than he is, You Have Created me from fire and him You Have Created from clay”.

Said, “then get out of it, for you are to be shot at

and My curse shall be on you till the day of judgment”.

Said, “O my LORD, give me respite to the day when they will be resurrected”.

Said, “Respite then is granted

till the day of the appointed time”.

Said, “then by Thy power, I will indeed entice all of them (to the wrong path),

except Your servants among them who are truly loyal”. (Quran 38:71-83)

jinn are made from fire and angels are made from light and humans from dirt but these verses from the quran say i was made from fire and he from dirt so this explains he is jinn not an angel otherwise he would have said i from light and he from dirt

I was reading surat al kahf today for friday and i found another aya about iblees this one specifically says he was a jinn: And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated, except for Iblees. He was of the jinn and departed from the command of his Lord. Then will you take him and his descendants as allies other than Me while they are enemies to you? Wretched it is for the wrongdoers as an exchange.18:50

Satan, in the Bible, was the morning star son of the dawn, cast to earth he was brought down to the pit. He said: Isaiah:14-13 I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly,on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. 14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High. Ezekial 28:13 You were in Eden, the garden of God. Your clothing was adorned with every precious stone*--red carnelian, chrysolite, white moonstone, beryl, onyx, jasper, sapphire, turquoise, and emerald--all beautifully crafted for you and set in the finest gold. They were given to you on the day you were created.1

14 I ordained and anointed you as the mighty angelic guardian.* You had access to the holy mountain of God and walked among the stones of fire.2

15 "You were blameless in all you did from the day you were created until the day evil was found in you.

16 Your great wealth filled you with violence, and you sinned. So I banished you from the mountain of God. I expelled you, O mighty guardian, from your place among the stones of fire.

17 Your heart was filled with pride because of all your beauty. You corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth and exposed you to the curious gaze of kings.

18 You defiled your sanctuaries with your many sins and your dishonest trade. So I brought fire from within you, and it consumed you. I let it burn you to ashes on the ground in the sight of all who were watching. The koran cannot agree whether he was a jinn on a fallen angel.

Koran sura 7: The Heights 10 and we created you, then we fashioned you, then we said unto the angels, ‘Adore Adam,’ and they adored, save Iblis, who was not of those who did adore. 11 Said He, ‘What hinders thee from adoring when I order thee?’ He said, ‘I am better than he; Thou hast created me from fire, and him Thou hast created out of clay.’

THEN WE SAID UNTO THE ANGELS. This says to me that he was an angel.

yes but then it says that iblees said i was made from fire, only jinn are made from fire do you really think the aya would say and allah said to the angels, and iblees, no that would be too wordy saying to the angels is because the majority were angels we belive that there are more angels than there are humans in all of man kind thats more than trillions the majority were obviously angels and iblees recived a high honor from allah he worshipped him aside from the other jinn so he was dubbed as high as an angel untill that day

if there was a group of americans and one non-american in the whole entire crowd and the president was adressing them saying "my fellow americans" do you think the president would also say "my fellow americans and the non american in the crowd" firstly the president is mainly speaking to americans because the majority are americans secondly that person regards them selves as american as the rest of the people there even if they dont have a citizenship they would be offended and feel like the president is singling that one person out, even though they act like the other americans

Ok I see what your saying. In the Kuran you believe he is a jinn. I thought they were part of the 101 storys of the arabian nights, are you going to tell me that there are jeinie's in bottles to? I know there are different types of angels that have different jobs but there are no jinn in the Bible, satin was an angel that was jelous of God's position. Mohammad must not have understood that part of the story.

an angel does whatever god says and dosent have a choice the quran specifically says he was a jinn i added an aya in my answer above muhammad did not write the quran if thats what your suggesting; he was illiterate gabrial sent the quran to muhammad he memorized it went back to the muslims and they wrote it down so do not put any blame or inaccuracies on muhammad, secondly the story of the genie in a lamp came from 101 stories the person who wrote the story was muslim and belived in jinn but not in that way that is there own illustration of jinn, there is a sura about jinn

you should go to and look for it and see what they are there is also a question somwhere on this website talking about jinn but basically the story of a genie in a lamp was based on the story about one of the prophets, prophet sullayman or solomen he can cotroll jinn and they by allah commandment they had to do whatever he said, it wasent three wishes, but when he died they gained their freedom he asked for this power and asked allah if he can keep this power only to him and to no other prophet as a special gift
