Asalamualykom,

my closest friend is planning to take her headscarf of when she starts college. She said because Allah SWT will not punish her for what she wears on the day of judgment, rather for major acts like prayer and fasting. Is there a hadith or Quranic verse which shows the punishment for not wearing headscarf?

She also said she has no self confidence to keep on wearing it- she's been wearing it from about yr 6 and now she will move to college In Shaa Allah.

I've spoke to her so many times and she won't change her mind- i really don't want to see her moving away from Islam :(

What should i do please help?????

Salam sister there is weak hadith that says woman will be hung by their hair. This however im unsure of its authentication . Now dealing with the Qur'an we know its a commandment from Allah . Therefore by not doing so she is being disobedient . The best thing I can do for u is to say for u to make duaa for her. Salaam

Salam,

There is a hadith that states taht the Hijab is lawful for all women.

“And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts) and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent (like both eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer palms of hands or one eye or dress like veil, gloves, headcover, apron), and to draw their veils all over Juyoobihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms) and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands, or their fathers, or their husband’s fathers, or their sons, or their husband’s sons, or their brothers or their brother’s sons, or their sister’s sons, or their (Muslim) women (i.e. their sisters in Islam), or the (female) slaves whom their right hands possess, or old male servants who lack vigour, or small children who have no sense of feminine sex. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And all of you beg Allaah to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful”

[al-Noor 24:31]

You may only "reveal" yourself i.e dress normally in front of your Family and husband. Another hadith:

“O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies (i.e. screen themselves completely except the eyes or one eye to see the way). That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed. And Allaah is Ever Oft‑Forgiving, Most Merciful”

[al-Ahzaab 33:59]

So as we can see the Hijab is lawful no matter where she goes. whether it be a shop, a taxi, a public place or in this case a College. You have to wear it no matter where you go. She may wear normal clothing when home in front of parents husband children etc....
