I'm confused Rasul is a messenger of Allah subhana WA taala . A nabi is a prophet. If that's correct then all were prophets but not all were messengers . There were only 5 messengers Noah , Abraham,Moses,Jesus peace be upon them all, and the last was Muhammad salalahu allahi WA salim. As far as how many prophets ... I know it's more than 25 but not sure on exact number.

Yes, every Messenger is a Prophet but not every Prophet is a Messenger. Messenger came with the new Shariah which dissolves the previous Shariah of the previous Messenger. But when a Prophet came, he (PBUH) continues the previous shariah and show the correct path of the previous Messenger which people had forgotten.

So your saying with each law the law changed from messenger to messenger?(I thought the messages were always the same) They are all prophets 124000 of them . 5 were messengers.. Right?

No, Allah (S.W.T) sent 313 messengers on earth but only the names of few are provided in Holy Qur'an. The basic law is same that is La Illa Ha Illalah and every messenger came with the same message that is "There is only one God". the difference was only the Shariah (Scripture and Laws) like Bani-Israel has to fast on every Saturday but not the Christians and Muslims are obligatory to fast in Ramadan. The thing is when people forgot their Shariah and made changes into the scriptures then Allah (S.W.T) sent a messenger who confirms the Prophet-Hood of previous messenger continue...

and confirms the previous scriptures and came with the new Scripture.

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah said: The correct view is that the Messenger is one who is sent to a disbelieving people, and the Prophet is one who is sent to a believing people with the sharee’ah of the Messenger who came before him, to teach them and judge between them

Allah (S.W.T) has sent 124,000 Prophets on Earth.

However only 25 are mentioned by name in Holy Qur'an.

25 Prophets not 124... We as muslims should always work with Quran and Hadiths say not what we heard and in Quran there are 25 names which clearly means Allah SWA sent 25 Prophets.

@Miss, this is a question in which I want no debate. Holy Qur'an itself says that there are messengers about whom we have related their stories to you in Holy Qur'an and messengers about whom we have not related to you,

And [We sent] messengers about whom We have related [their stories] to you before and messengers about whom We have not related to you. And Allah spoke to Moses with [direct] speech. [Holy Qur'an 4:164]

And for every nation is a messenger. So when their messenger comes, it will be judged between them in justice, and they will not be wronged [Holy Qur'an 10:47]
