Assalamu alaikum

It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin Masud said: "The Messenger of Allah used to fast three days in the middle of every month, and he rarely did not fast on Friday." (Hasan) an-Nasaai Book 22, Hadith 2380

It is likely there is increased pressure in the body at the time of the full moon. Hence they would fast these days to compensate for the changes in the environment and Allaah knows best.
